Our Recovery and Growth Strategy (RGS) builds on an supersedes our Local Industrial Strategy. It recasts the strategy in the light of Covid-19 and the important policies that emerged during 2020 including on EU exit and climate change.

The RGS is now our key strategic document up to 2030 and will drive all D2N2 activities. It focuses on a number of three key propositions and three priorities for action within each proposition.

Proposition 1 – Low Carbon Growth

Lead the most ambitious carbon turnaround in the country

Low carbon leadership: Making the most of our natural and human assets to reduce carbon, for example, working with the Peak District on carbon sequestration. Led by our Place Advisory Board.

Enabling key low carbon sites: Making the most of our industrial assets such as Ratcliffe and our other power station sites to foster green innovation, jobs, skills and energy production. Led by our Place Advisory Board.

Decarbonising growth: Promoting sectors such as modular housing and alternative fuels and working with high carbon sectors like minerals to help them innovate for low carbon. Led by our Place Advisory Board.

Proposition 2 – Productivity:

Lead a bold new way of bringing together the education and skills, innovation and business support systems to support our people and businesses to thrive.

An ambitious and bold skills system: that can flex to meet the current and future skills needs to maximise growth and social mobility across D2N2 in key growth sectors such as automotive manufacturing, bioscience and low carbon; and boost digital skills in all sectors. Led by our People and Skills Advisory Board.

Best In class Environment for Business: help to make our region the most attractive place for businesses to start up, invest and grow through making our business support the best in class. Led by our Business Growth and Innovation Advisory Board.

Proposition 3 – Connectivity and inclusion

Deliver connectivity-led growth to and for all parts of the D2N2 region

Levelling up: play our part in the biggest turnaround in social mobility in the country by focusing on levelling up; including developing a comprehensive digital strategy. Led by our People and Skills Advisory Board.

Make D2N2 the best-connected region: get fast digital access everywhere; and ensure our investments in physical mobility are used to drive behaviour changes towards low carbon travel. Led by our Place Advisory Board.

Quality of place: use our economic and skills investments in our cities, towns, rural areas and growth corridors to improve the quality of life for our residents, workers and visitors. Led by our Place Advisory Board.

Our advisory boards will report on progress to the D2N2 LEP Board every quarter and performance reports will be available within LEP Board papers
